Dean Cline, Jr. - President

Dean held various positions with Corning Cable Systems, a global manufacturer of telecommunications products. He was employed at Corning from college graduation until joining Cline Associates in 2001. The training and experience gained from working for Corning has proven invaluable in leading Cline Associates.

Dean has held various roles at Cline Associates from customer service rep, where he processed daily orders, to his current role as President. As Cline Associate’s President, Dean maps out the strategic plan for the company as well as maintains account responsibilities for key accounts such as Circle K.

Dean is also certified in teaching, coaching and speaking as part of the John Maxwell Leadership Team.

Dean and his wife Paige have three children; Adam, Sydney and Drew. Dean and his family live in Hickory, NC and are very active in their kids’ activities and church.

Dean Cline, Sr. - Chairman

Dean Cline, Sr.’s career originated as a Buyer at Johnson Supply Co in 1964, a small service merchandiser company located in Hickory, North Carolina serving 400 C-Store customers in western North Carolina and east Tennessee. Most stores were single store operators located in rural areas. He later was promoted to Buyer/Sales Manager from 1970 to 1978 and VP of sales 1978. Dean moved to Thomas & Howard in 1984 to establish a service department. He then became the General Manager and VP of Thomas & Howard Service, a division of Thomas & Howard. Thomas & Howard had three grocery houses and one service merchandise company. Twenty two months later Thomas & Howard sold to Nash Finch but Thomas & Howard Service retained it’s identity. With Dean’s leadership the business grew from $18,000,000 to $50,000,000 in seven years.

Alan Taylor - Sales Director - National Accounts

Alan has over 25 years of sales and marketing experience. The first 14 years of his career were spent in the C-Store wholesale network in Sales, Merchandising, and Management. Alan then worked four years in the C-Store brokerage industry. In 1997, Alan joined Meridian Beverage Company as Regional Sales Manager and then VP of Sales calling on wholesalers and retailers in the C-Store, Grocery, Drug, Mass, Club, and Foodservice channels. After leaving Meridian Beverage after 10 years, Alan became the Regional Manager for Thanasi Foods managing the sales and brokerage network for the southeastern US market in the C-Store and grocery channels.

Angie Terrell - Regional Sales Director

Angie has held various positions within the Convenience Store Arena; beginning as a Wholesaler as a Merchandiser then Territory Manager: Retail Merchandiser/Buyer for a 45 Store Retail Chain: and then joining the broker community with different job responsibilities including Regional Manager, Business Manager, Dairy Manager, and Account Manager.

Angie’s territory with Cline includes Tennessee and Kentucky. Angie serves major convenience store chains and several wholesaler locations and is responsible for shows and promotions. Angie is also responsible for our client relationship with H.T. Hackney.

Angie is happily married with three step-children and two dogs. She loves adventure and travel. Angie enjoys remodeling her home, reading, cross-stitching and church activities.

David Graybill - Retail Director

David held various positions with McLane Company, a global wholesaler specializing in Mass Merchandising and the C-Store trade. He was originally employed at McLane in 1982 and remained there until joining Cline Associates in 2012. The wealth of experience gained in all aspects of the C-Store industry working for McLane has been paramount in his role with Cline Associates.

David’s career in the industry began working full time at McLane Company immediately following school. Roles David had during his career with McLane included DC Supervisor, Route Sales Merchandiser, Reset Specialist, Area Sales Manager, National Account Manager and southeastern Region Project Manager.

David and his wife Sharon live in Mooresville, NC with their two children Sydney and Turner. They enjoy their kids sporting events as well as church and family activities.

Doug Gatewood - Regional Sales Director

Doug held various positions with Acosta Sales and Marketing, a consumer goods brokerage for the C-Store Industry. He was employed in College Admissions from college graduation until joining Quaker Oats in 1984. The training and experience Doug gained from working for Quaker Oats has been invaluable.

At Cline Associates, Doug serves as the Regional Sales Manager for the Eastern, NC Region. He maintains account responsibilities for key accounts such as Southco Distributing and Coremark N.C.

Doug and his wife Rosemary they have two children; Jonathan and Patrick. He and his family live in Four Oaks, NC where they are very active in their church.

Johnny Scott - Regional Sales Director

Prior to joining Cline Associates in 2010, Johnny worked with Acosta as a Business Manager from 2004 to 2009. He served the same role with Crossmark from 2001 to 2004. Prior experience includes Canada Dry Bottlers (Salesman from 1985 through 1990) and National Tobacco Co. (Area Account Manager from 1990 to 1999). He also served National Tobacco as a Marketing Specialist and Business Manager from 1999 to 2001.

Johnny has been in the C-Store industry for 30 years. Throughout his career, Johnny has represented every category within the C-Store market.

William J. Wahl - Regional Sales Director

William held various positions, for ten years, in three states, with Acosta Sales & Marketing. Prior to that he worked 20 years as regional and National Sales Manager at two candy companies.

William has worked at many levels in the convenient store industry. He has 20+ years experience as a Sales Manager calling on C-Store groups across the US and Canada. For 15 years, William served as broker calling on C-Store groups in three different states and 6 months working with a local distributor calling on independent C-Stores.

William is married to Dory and has four children. He has five grandchildren—one of which lives with him. In his spare time, William enjoys golfing, fishing and hunting.

Jennifer Cook - Office Manager

Joined Cline Associates in 2006 as Office Manager. Prior to working with Cline she was employed by HT Hackney as a Customer Service Representative.

Jennifer’s earliest job was as a stay-at-home mom to her sons Casey and Matthew. She is happily married to her husband Todd.

Jennifer volunteers at Carolina Hoofprints, Equine-Assisted Therapy. She enjoys reading, gardening, painting, football and baseball. She is a mom, coach’s wife and a Cline Associates’ employee, and is happy to juggle all three.

Kristi Chapman - Customer Service Representative

Kristi joined Cline Associates in 2009. She is responsible for processing all of our customers purchase orders and getting pertinent information out to them as well for our manufacturers. Cline salespeople may call upon Kristi at any time to assist them with any paperwork or projects they may need help with.

Kristi and her husband Chuck have a wonderful son, Cole, who loves to play baseball. Kristi’s free time is used going to practices and games. She loves to read and spend time with my family.

Beth Carter - Director of Business Development

Beth started her career in sales and marketing at Lane/Venture Furniture where she served as Advertising Manager for 10 years. She enjoyed being a part of the furniture industry while creating sales tools for promoting the Lane brand including catalogs, photography and national advertising. She was also trained in and served as the Strategic Planning Manager for Lane. She then took several years off to spend time with her three children, Sara, Will and Ben.

Beth later returned to work at ELK Products who specializes in home security and automation products sold through distribution. As their Marketing Specialist, she was responsible for promoting current products while launching new ones. She also assisted in managing a national independent rep force of 30 people.

Beth is married to Tom and they live in Hickory with their three children. They spend lots of time at their children’s activities and love to have fun at the lake.

Ramona Wall - Regional Sales Director

Ramona started her sales career in Kentucky with Long Distance Discount Service (LDDS), which in the late 90’s became MCI/World Com. During her 14 years in the telecommunication industry she held various outside & inside sales/support position.  She ended her telecommunication career with MCI/World Com as Customer Operation Manager over 23 states based out of Greenville, South Carolina. Ramona moved back to Kentucky in 2004 and joined Commonwealth Brands, DBA Imperial Tobacco Group, as an Territory Manager, She was promoted to National/Regional Account Manager for Kentucky & Tennessee in 2009, and held that position till early spring of 2016.

Ramona’s territory for Cline includes parts of the Kentucky and Tennessee markets; servicing convenience store chains, wholesalers, as well as, managing applicable regional trade shows and promotions.

Ramona is married to her high school sweetheart Dexter Wall. She has two daughters and her big Main Coon cat named Otis. She loves cooking, shopping, and spending time on the lake with family & friends.

Chris Freeman - Operations Manager, Retail Services (ISE)

Chris joined the Cline team in 2015 as a contract merchandiser before transitioning into the role of ITP Sales and then his current role as Field Operations Manager of In Store Execution. Originally from Asheville, NC, Chris began his career in 1988 as a Sales Representative for both a window hardware manufacturer and later an apparel textile manufacturer. In 1996, he joined McLane Company where he would serve as a Route Merchandiser, Reset Specialist, and eventually District Manager.

After working with Sell Thru Services as part of the Kraft convenience program, he joined the former Pantry/Kangaroo group as a Field Merchandiser until 2015. Chris currently lives in Simpsonville, SC with his wife Susan where he enjoys music, raising his dogs, and collecting sports memorabilia.

Jud Swearingen - Regional Sales Director

Jud has over 20 years experience in the Consumer Products industry. He worked for Georgia-Pacific for 15 years within the Consumer Products division. During his tenure at GP, he managed and called on many different accounts within Mass, Club, Dollar, Drug and Grocery. After leaving GP, he ran his own business for several years before returning to the Consumer Products industry at Fonegear. He comes to Cline Associates after spending the past few years positioning Wausau Paper for entry into the retail paper business.

Jud’s territory with Cline includes Georgia and South Carolina.

Jud resides in Jackson, GA with his wife Renee and their two teenage children; Josie and Will.

Dan Clifton - Operations Manager, Retail Services (ITP)

Dan began his career with Publix Supermarkets in 1968 and joined Rogers American Brokerage in 1990.  He has over 40 years in retail food services and has particular expertise in the beverage category.

Dan joined the Cline Team in 2014 as a retail specialist in the Independent Tagging Program (ITP).  After two years Dan was promoted to the supervisor of that business unit.

Dan and his wife Rannah live in Clayton, NC and have two children.

Jason Rose - Regional Sales Director

Prior to joining the Cline Associates Team in October, Jason spent the last 11 years as a Sales Manager for Hickory Brands, Inc. and most recently Drymax Technologies, Inc., both manufacturers in the hosiery and footwear accessory industry. Jason’s territory included the Eastern Region of the US where he managed independently owned Footwear, Athletic and Run Specialty stores as well as big box/key accounts.

At Cline Associates, Jason will be managing sales to all wholesalers and retailers in Western North Carolina.

Jason is married to Kathy and has two step children, Taylor and Drew and a daughter, Dylan. They reside in Bethlehem, NC where they enjoy spending time on the lake and supporting their kids’ sports teams and activities. Jason is very active in his church where he is also a member of the praise band/worship team.
